Keeping your Lymphatic System Healthy

03.09.2010 / In Massage / by Alliance Staff

The lymphatic system is made up of a network of vessels that carry a clear fluid called lymph throughout the body. The lymph vessels run through lymph nodes, clusters of which can be found in the neck, armpits, chest, abdomen, and groin. Lymph fluid serves the important purpose of carrying nutrients to the cells, which bathe in the fluid. The lymph fluid then delivers cellular waste to the bloodstream, which carries it to the kidneys, colon, and lungs for elimination.

If all this sounds like a lot of mumbo jumbo to you, just know that your lymphatic system is fundamentally important to the health of the body because it disposes of harmful waste that can cause illness and disease. If you don't believe me, just look at this list of conditions that can be caused by a clogged or blocked lymphatic system:

  • Back Pain
  • Yeast Infections
  • Constipation
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Skin Disorders
  • Cellulite
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Depression
  • Gum Disease and Bad Breath
  • Muscle Tension
  • Psoriasis
  • Hormonal Imbalances
  • Weight Gain

So what can you do? To start with, get enough rest, exercise regularly, avoid processed foods, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, and drink plenty of water. These probably don't sound too ground-breaking to you, and they are likely things that you are already doing. So how can you take your lymphatic health to the next level? Get a regular massage. Massage helps stimulate the lymph nodes and promote easy movement of fluid through the lymphatic system, speeding up nutrient delivery and waste removal and removing any blockages that may be causing any of the side effects listed above. Lymph drainage massage can help remove toxins from the system, help evacuate fats, bolster the parasympathetic system, reduce chronic pain, enhance the immune system and much more. If you're not feeling in optimal health, lymph massage could be the answer.
