Don't be overfed, undernourished: Eating too many processed, cooked and nutrient-deficient foods will leave your stomach full but your body still craving the nutrients it needs. Thus, your mind will continue to send out "I'm hungry" signals. Eating nutrient-rich foods, like fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes and nuts, will better satiate your mind and body, and you'll require a smaller amount of food to feel full.
Eat like a cow: This does not refer to your table manners, but rather to when and how much you eat. When we eat large meals, our bodies are not actually able to use all the nutrients provided. Thus, the excess is stored as fat. So, rather than eating three large meals a day, try a "grazing" diet. By eating smaller meals more often, our bodies can digest and use more of what we put into them, causing less fat to be stored. Try eating five or six smaller meals, or snacks, per day - you will feel hungry less often and probably find yourself naturally eating less.
Out of sight, out of mind: An easy way to avoid eating the wrong foods is simply to not keep them in your cupboard. If you snack at home, replace those unhealthy munchies - like chips and sweets - with naturally healthy foods. Fill your fridge with dried fruits and nuts, replace sugary soda with sparkling water and fresh lemon juice and trade in high-fat and processed foods for natural alternatives. Although you will not always be able to avoid junk foods, at least getting them out of your house will reduce some of the temptation.
