The Candida Healing Diet

Candidiasis or "yeast syndrome" is gaining noteriety as a common cause behind many health complaints ranging from skin fungal infections to chronic fatigue and Multiple Sclerosis. Candidiasis is basically an overgrowth of yeast beginning in the digestive or urinary tract. The yeast normally lives in balance with healthy microorganisms and with a balanced internal ecology, its growth is limited by the abundance of the friendly bacteria. With any insult to the immune, nervous, or digestive systems, the opportunisitc yeast can grow into its fungal form and start to take over. It develops roots or rhizomes that attach to the gut wall leading to a host of problems related to poor digestion, food allergies, excessive immune responses, toxic byproducts, oxidative damage, and even severe systemic reactions.

Causes of candida include:

  • frequent or chronic antibiotic use,
  • birth control pills,
  • steroid type drugs,
  • hormone replacement,
  • environmental toxins,
  • poor diet,
  • stress,
  • and adrenal fatigue

Yeast syndrome tends to be more common in women and can manifest as PMS, urinary tract infections, yeast infections, and mood swings. In all people, yeast imbalance can produce skin or nail fungal infections, sweet or carbohydrate cravings, sensitivity to molds, dampness, and smells, mental and emotional symptoms, chronic fatigue, indigestion, food allergies, immune system dysfunction, and even autoimmune disease.

Nutrition therapy for candida syndrome

The "Candida Healing Diet" involves an "anti-yeast" diet, promoting nutrient dense whole foods to provide a solid foundation of nourishment and healthy digestion, addressing any potential food allergies, using botanicals, teas, or supplements to reduce yeast growth, and supporting healthy intestinal ecology. In conjunction with a "Candida Healing Diet", a detox and liver support protocol is often an effective adjunct to allow people to restore immunity and reclaim their health.
